Returning equipment to the warehouse is often chaotic. Trucks arrive, equipment gets unloaded, and waits for warehouse staff to process it. Then problems start popping up: equipment meant for another warehouse has been delivered to yours, items from different projects were returned together on the same truck, or your carefully organized equipment combinations are completely mixed up. This creates confusion and wastes time by adding manual work to the return process. Instead of efficiently scanning and placing items back in their warehouse locations, you're stuck figuring out what came from where and sorting through the mess.
Introducing Mobile scan return in the Rentman app, designed to take care of the complexities for you so that you can return equipment efficiently and accurately.
While you've always been able to use scan return on the web, we've now brought this functionality to mobile with improvements designed to simplify returns, especially for equipment combinations and multiple warehouses.
Now you can:
- Handle equipment combinations, check content, and refill cases intuitively
- Automatically return equipment to the correct stock location or warehouse

Returning combinations
Flight cases are generally sent out sealed, so you know exactly what's inside. While on location, the case gets opened, equipment is used, and when it's time to pack up, chaos begins. Packers are often in a hurry and just want to get everything loaded onto the truck and sent back to the warehouse quickly. That leaves you with a flight case filled with random equipment, rather than the items that were originally sealed together.
Mobile scan return makes refilling cases simple. Scan your case, and the app will show you which items need to be refilled. Easily scan the contents, regardless of their origin and seal your case. If your case arrives still sealed, you can skip the manual inspection and everything will be returned automatically.
Working with multiple warehouses
Equipment doesn’t always return to the warehouse from which it originally left. Items may be rerouted between warehouses during busy periods, a truck might be rerouted to a more convenient location than initially planned, or items might just show up in another warehouse unexpectedly. When that happens, equipment ends up at a different location than intended, and you're stuck with having to do manual stock transfers to get everything back where it needs to be.
With Mobile scan return, you can simply scan your returned item, even if it's expected back at another warehouse, and stock levels will update to reflect the actual warehouse the equipment has been returned to. That way, you always know where your equipment is, your stock stays accurate, and you don’t need to place a manual transfer before returning your equipment.
How to get started with Mobile scan return
Mobile scan return is now available in the latest version of the mobile app for all users with Rentman’s Equipment tracking. If you don’t have access to the Equipment tracking add-on, you’ll need to upgrade your plan. Feel free to reach out to your CSM or Rentman’s support team for help.
